Following Friday’s $1.049 billion dollar verdict in the Apple vs. Samsung case, both companies quickly released statements regarding the outcome. However, a company that was surprisingly silent right throughout was Google. Although they have now provided us with a statement after several days, addressing the issue.
Unlike Samsung, Google refrain from displaying any sort of anger regarding the verdict, and focused on distancing themselves from the matter. Their statement is as follows;
The court of appeals will review both infringement and the validity of the patent claims. Most of these don’t relate to the core Android operating system, and several are being re-examined by the US Patent Office. The mobile industry is moving fast and all players — including newcomers — are building upon ideas that have been around for decades. We work with our partners to give consumers innovative and affordable products, and we don’t want anything to limit that.
Google have in no way defended Samsung, who make a large number of Android products. They have instead defended the Android operating system in general, by saying that the claims “don’t relate to the core Android operating system.”
