Tweetbot for Mac released on the Mac App Store for $19.99

Tweetbot for Mac has finally arrived. After many months in both alpha and beta forms, the new Twitter client from developer Tapbots is on the Mac App Store, but there is some bad news, the price. Tweetbot for Mac costs $20.

The $20 price tag is incredibly steep, and will surely scare off many prospective users.

However, it is important to note that this price has not been imposed solely from the developers. As Paul Haddad from Tapbots has said:

Because of Twitter’s recent enforcement of token limits, we only have a limited number of tokens available for Tweetbot for Mac. These tokens dictate how many users Tweetbot for Mac can have. The app’s limit is separate from, but much smaller than, the limit for Tweetbot for iOS. Once we use up the tokens granted to us by Twitter, we will no longer be able to sell the app to new users. Tapbots will continue to support Tweetbot for Mac for existing customers at that time.

Tapbots have carried across their stellar reputation from their iOS Tweetbot app, and are already receiving rave reviews in regards to the Mac version.

Below are the release notes:

Tweetbot is a full-featured Mac OS X Twitter client with a lot of personality. Whether it’s the meticulously-crafted interface, sounds & animation, or features like multiple timelines & column views, there’s a lot to love about Tweetbot.

Brief Highlights:

◆ Multiple Timelines. Quickly switch between your lists as your main timeline.
◆ Multiple Windows and Columns. Display timelines from different accounts side by side.
◆ Notification Center Support.
◆ Beautiful Retina graphics.
◆ Mute filters lets you block messages from users without unfollowing them. You can also mute hashtags and specific keywords.
◆ Sync timeline position, direct message read statuses and mute filters between your Mac, iPhone and iPad via iCloud.
◆ Support for multiple services like Pocket, Instapaper, Readability, CloudApp and Droplr.
◆ Save drafts, add locations and POI’s, attach photos/videos, manage your lists, and much more.

The $20 price tag sure is hard to accept, but just remember, that in the future, there will be no more tokens left for Tweetbot for Mac, and it will be pulled from the App Store. The $20 price tag not only buys an application, but also buys the lasting support from Tapbots, even after the app is pulled, and considering the state of other Twitter applications on the Mac, the asking price might be justifiable.

For more information, head over to the Tapbots’ website, or over to the Mac App Store for a better look at the app.
