Mailbox for iPhone now out, but you’ll have to wait in line to get it

MailboxMailbox, the highly anticipated iOS email client from developer Orchestra, is now available in the App Store for free. While this is fantastic news, there is one major setback; while you may be able to download the application, you need a reservation code just to enter the waiting list to start using it. According to Orchestra, their servers would not be able to handle the large amount of users had there been no reservation system. However, many people are outraged in regards to the waiting time required to simply use the application.

There are hundreds of thousands of people on the waiting list, resulting in what will likely be a long process of accepting new users. It is said that the number of people accepted will increase exponentially, so while only a few are being allowed in now, the acceptance rate should become much higher, hopefully resulting in quicker movement through the list.

Many users have taken to Twitter to discuss their outrage, the number of which has likely increased due to the ‘discuss on Twitter’ button at the bottom of the Mailbox interface for those who are on the waiting list.

Although a lucky few have already been accepted, and the reviews are praising Mailbox:

Cult of Mac are extremely impressed:

(Mailbox is) The best email client on the iPhone, period. Flawless execution of a great idea that will completely change how you deal with email.

The Verge said much the same:

Mailbox is a revelation in simple, decisive, and logical design

To download Mailbox, head over to the App Store, where it is free. Unfortunately, if you do not have a reservation code, you will be sent to the back of the line straight away.

  1. I’m perfectly happy with the native mail app. I don’t think there’s any need to try to complicate e-mail. Maybe this would be convenient for people who deal with a lot of e-mail, but I’m alright with what I have. Interesting about the whole waiting list thing though.
